why seated · Pound is the middle term. Personae names the operation outright, and Homage to Sextus Propertius is the same manoeuvre Ginsberg later performs on Catullus 38: a Latin source whose form is tracked and whose register is inverted, defended by its author as something other than translation when the philologists complained. Seated so the Ginsberg/Catullus transform has a precedent inside the archive and the series Browning-Pound-Pessoa can be measured as one developing practice.
