why seated · Thucydides is the other half of the null's classical-prose pole and has the lowest within-author dispersion measured in this work (0.0097 across eight books). Book V.84-116, the Melian dialogue, is also a rare case of sustained dialogue form inside a historian, which makes him usable as a genre control in ways the register has not yet exploited.
