why seated · Xenophon is the genre calibrator and an edge-figure candidate at once. One hand across Socratic dialogue, history, encomium and technical treatise, which is the only way to separate the genre effect from the author effect in this feature space — a decomposition that corrected two errors in the archive's own measurements. He is also, per the Chaerephon problem, a candidate position at the configuration's edge: he preserves a separate version of the oracle at Apology 14, and his Socrates occupies the civic-memorial register that Plato's cannot.
